What we do
All of our counseling is offered free of charge and our services are available to veterans of any era. Among our staff are psychotherapists and a creative arts therapist, all of whom are experienced working with those suffering from PTSD. Non-traditional therapy is offered through a program called From the Ground Up, which is similar to the national program Horses for Heroes. We also have meditation experts available to work with you.
Working with government agencies and programs can be extremely complex. We can help advocate for you in dealing with:
- The Veterans Administration
- Applying for public assistance such as Medicaid, SSI, SSD. etc.
- Custody and visitation issues
- Separation and divorce
- Certification as having PTSD
We want to work with veterans who are AWOL in helping them sort through their options. We want to work with anyone in the Service who is interested in applying for Conscientious Objector status.
We will seek out and refer you to the best legal, psychological and practical resource people in helping you with any counseling and advocacy issues that fall out of our areas of expertise. We can also refer you to physical therapists, massage therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, acupuncturists, chiropractors, physicians etc.
We feature an outreach program very willing to speak to any interested groups and organizations about:
- Veterans' reintegration issues including PTSD
- How we as a community need to heal together from the effects of the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan
- How a veteran's return affects their families and loved ones; and what would be helpful for these families.
- We are also interested in showing the film, The Ground Truth, a powerful and moving documentary made by and about veterans of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. We would follow these showings with both discussions and healing work.
We offer direct support for families and close friends of veterans including listening, organized support groups, and individual counseling.
